UK-Switzerland Agreement Signed to Ease Recognition of Professional Qualifications Between the Two Countries
The UK and Switzerland have signed an agreement to streamline the recognition of professional qualifications for individuals in the two countries. The UK-Switzerland Recognition of Professional Qualifications Agreement covers more than 200 professions, including those in sectors like law, veterinary medicine, and ski instruction. It will make it easier for UK professionals to work in Switzerland and vice versa. Similarly, it’s been reported that talks are also underway for a new trade deal between the nations.
Growth for Both Nations
The updated UK-Switzerland agreement, which replaces the previous arrangements under the now-expired Citizens’ Rights Agreement, is expected to have a direct impact on UK-Swiss trade, which is currently valued at around £46 billion annually. The agreement particularly strengthens the trade of professional and business services, which is worth around £8 billion.
Furthermore, now that UK-qualified professionals have clearer qualification recognition in Switzerland, businesses, especially in the service sector, can expand more easily. Additionally, the free movement of employees between the two countries will promote stronger economic and cultural ties in the future. In the immediate future, the agreement will also help promote the UK as an ideal investment destination as the government prepares to attend the annual conference in Davos.
